God is so good to us; he promises us that he will accompany us through our journey of faith. [And so,] relics of San Francisco Javier and Pope John Paul II are placed at the foot of the altar as a symbol and reminder that saints accompany us always. Christians never walk alone but are accompanied by the saints.
As we become more like Christ, we come to know his presence, especially in those around us – our brothers and sisters, particularly the poor, the sick, the hungry, the lonely, the abandoned and forgotten.
Christ is present in each one of us. If the Eucharist we take from this altar opens our eyes to see our brothers and sisters as one with us and one with Christ… then we indeed are receiving the Eucharist worthily.
