Pastoral Message on the Appointment of Bishop Daniel E. Garcia as the Sixth Bishop of Austin

Dear Friends in Christ,

With profound thanksgiving and gratitude, the Diocese of Austin announces that on Wednesday July 2, 2025, our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, named the Most Reverend Daniel E. Garcia the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Austin.

Since 2019, Bishop Garcia has served as the Bishop of Monterey in California and now will return to his home diocese where he was ordained a priest and previously served as auxiliary bishop.  

As Bishop Garcia embraces this new appointment, let us pray that God will fill him with hope and joy as he prepares to lead the Diocese of Austin. With our prayers and support, and in the spirit of his episcopal motto, may we "walk humbly with God" alongside Bishop Garcia.
