    • Symbolism

      The Cross / The Crucifix
The Cross is a foundational symbol of our faith. It represents our belief in the Holy Trinity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It also represents our belief in Jesus’ triumph over sin and death through His Crucifixion and Resurrection. Though the Cross is commonly seen in society, we should not take its meaning for granted. When we make the Sign of the Cross, we renew our Baptismal vows, confess our Catholic faith, and declare ourselves for God. Through this holy symbol, we show that we belong to Christ.

      The Chalice
The chalice is not an ordinary glass, but a sacred vessel consecrated to hold the wine which becomes Jesus’ blood during Mass. At the Last Supper, Jesus spoke of the bread and the chalice and told His disciples to receive His Body and Blood in remembrance of Him. (Luke 22:19-20) The chalice reminds us of Jesus’ willing sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. It also reminds us that we are called to be sacred vessels, willing to serve and give, remembering the sacrifices made for us.

      The Sacred Heart
The Sacred Heart symbolizes both our devotion to Christ and His immense love and mercy for us. The image of the Sacred Heart dates back to 1675 when a French nun, Saint Mary Margaret, saw a vision of the Sacred Heart and Jesus spoke to her about His love for humanity. The Sacred Heart reminds us that “God is love” (1 John 4:8). Jesus invites us to receive His love and share this love with others.
