Employee Leave Information The Diocese of Austin provides various leave options to support employees during times of medical or personal need. Please review the information below to understand your eligibility and the required steps when requesting leave.
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) If you are eligible, you must use FMLA when taking leave for a qualifying reason, such as your own serious health condition, the birth or placement of a child, or to care for an eligible family member.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must have been employed with the Diocese for at least 12 months, and
You must have worked at least 1,250 hours during the preceding 12-month period.
Short-Term Disability (STD) If you are eligible, you must apply for Short-Term Disability benefits when taking leave for your own medical condition, including maternity leave. Please refer to the How to File STD Claim guide.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be enrolled in both Life Insurance and Short-Term Disability benefits.
Enrollment occurs during annual benefits enrollment or upon initial hire (if eligible).
Maternity Leave If you are taking maternity leave, you are required to use both Short-Term Disability and FMLA benefits concurrently if you meet eligibility requirements for each program.

After submitting your leave request, you will receive the required FMLA and Short-Term Disability applications and forms within 24–48 hours.
Please review, complete, and return all documents as directed to ensure the timely processing of your leave benefits.
