San Jose Parish, Austin | Saturday, April 18, 2026
There will be two celebrations beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Parishes are asked to select one celebration for their group. Click here to pre-register your parish. Registrations will be accepted through April 9, 2026.
Adult Confirmation is intended for individuals who are baptized Catholic, may have already received First Communion, and are 18 years or older and seeking confirmation. It presumes previous faith formation and active participation in parish life. It is important to have a conversation with each adult who seeks confirmation to determine if they have the pre-requisite formation, are free of impediments to receiving the sacraments, and have or have not celebrated reconciliation and Eucharist.
Directors/Catechists should arrive 1 hour before the start of the liturgy.Parish packets with instructions, seating assignments, name tags, and an attendee confirmation list will be available near the narthex.
Please do not send candidates alone to the Mass. All parishes must send a representative.
Candidates/Sponsors arrive between 45 minutes before the start of the liturgy.
Candidates should find their assigned parish seats and obtain their name badge from their leader. Place the name tag on the RIGHT side of the chest.
Candidates will sit with their sponsor in the pew assigned to their parish. Instructions for the participants will begin promptly at 15 minutes before the start of the liturgy. Everyone should be seated before instructions begin.
Seating
The reserved seating is for candidates, one godparent or proxy, and one parish leader ONLY.
Pews will have the parish name on them.
Seating for non-participants (families, spouses, etc) is limited and available in unmarked pews.
Presentation of the Candidates
After the proclamation of the Gospel, the candidates will be asked to stand in unison as they are presented to Bishop Garcia/Celebrant. He will address them and ask them to be seated for the homily.
The celebration of the Rite of Confirmation continues after the homily with the Renewal of Baptismal Promises, the Laying On of Hands, and the Anointing.
Candidates will process in a double line to be anointed by the Bishop as directed by the ushers. Sponsors should be behind their candidate with their right hand on the shoulder. Candidates should move close to the Celebrantso he does not need to reach.
After being anointed, the candidate and sponsor will return to their pew and be seated.
