We're proud to announce our keynote speaker for our 2025 Red Mass!
Dr. Gerard Wegemer, is a nationally known prominent scholar on St. Thomas More, known for his numerous publications and contributions to the field of More studies. His works include "Thomas More: A Portrait of Courage" and "Thomas More on Statesmanship". He is also the founding director of the Center for Thomas More Studies at the University of Dallas.
The Red Mass tradition dates from the 13th century. It is named for the red vestments worn by the priests and the scarlet robes worn by the Lord High Justices. Liturgical red is proper for a votive Mass of the Holy Spirit and symbolizes a willingness to defend the truth. In the United States today, a Red Mass is celebrated in most major metropolitan areas and is attended by judges, lawyers, public officials, law faculty, and law students.
Forward this invitation to other interested attorneys, judges, professors, students of law, family, friends and the faithful of the Diocese of Austin. All are welcome who wish to receive blessings at the opening of the 2025 judicial year.
