  • Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration
    January 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. | St. Thomas More Parish, Austin
    • The Diocese of Austin will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Parish in Austin. Honoring MLK Jr.'s legacy, this event promotes social justice, civil rights, diversity, and freedom. The commemoration also promotes the goal of building peaceful communities with non-violence as a means to defeat injustice.

This year, the diocese is highlighting a 'Beloved Community,' based on MLK's sermon 'Birth of a New Nation'. Join us for a day of prayer and a light reception.
"The aftermath of nonviolence is the creation of the beloved community. The aftermath of nonviolence is redemption. The aftermath of nonviolence is reconciliation. The aftermath of violence are emptiness and bitterness. This is the thing I'm concerned about. Let us fight passionately and unrelentingly for the goals of justice and peace."

    • Drum Major for Justice

      Jennifer Bibbo
Director of Outreach and Pastoral Care, St. Thomas More Parish

The 2025 Drum Major for Justice recipient will be awarded to Jennifer Bibbo of St. Thomas More Parish. She will be presented this honor by Most Reverend Bishop Joe S. Vazquez on Saturday, January 18 at her home parish St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Jennifer Bibbo serves as the Director of Outreach & Pastoral Care at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. With eight years of experience in her current position, she oversees 14 ministries that support individuals and families from birth to natural death. Additionally, Jennifer organizes donation drives, manages charitable contributions, and acts as an EIM administrator for the church. She and her family have been dedicated parishioners of St. Thomas More for 18 years. Married to her husband Joe for 26 years, they are proud parents of four children.

The Drum Major for Justice award, based upon Dr. King's "Drum Major Instinct Sermon," is given to an individual to recognize their work going above and beyond to serve others. This service is often reflected in the individual's commitment to social justice in disadvantaged communities.
"If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice, say that I was a drum major for peace: I was a drum major for righteousness."
