Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this event celebrates his legacy of social justice, civil rights, and human dignity. The commemoration promotes the goal of building peaceful communities with non-violence as a means to defeat injustice. This year, we highlight 'From the Mountaintop: A Vision for Justice' based on MLK's final speech, 'I've Been to the Mountaintop.'
"The question is not, "If I stop to help this man in need, what will happen to me?" The question is, "If I do not stop to help ... , what will happen to them?" That's the question."
Drum Major for Justice
Award Recipient
The Drum Major for Justice award commemorates the legacy and sacrifice Dr. Martin Luther King gave to the world. The award is awarded to an individual who perpetuates King's convictions "to make justice, equality and opportunity a reality for all people." The award's name comes from King's Drum Major Instinct sermon, during which he said, "If you want to say that I was a drum major, say I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness."
