New YM Meet & GreetThe first three years in your parish are critical to establishing your role as the youth ministry leader. As you foster new relationships, learn the dynamics of your parish setting, and grow your ministry, you will face many new and unique challenges.
Youth ministers who have served in their parishes for three years or less are invited to attend a new youth minister virtual check-in May 2026.

NFCYM Webinars and Resources
The mission of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) is to support and strengthen those who accompany young people as they encounter and follow Jesus Christ. NFCYM's webinar library provides ongoing formational opportunities to support and strengthen adult ministry leaders and volunteers who accompany young people as they encounter and follow Jesus Christ.
Their resource site provides tools for creating a comprehensive youth ministry program. From models and methods to pastoral practices and youth mental health, you will find new methods “to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.” (RTV 9)

Certification in Youth Ministry

Did you know that you can be certified in youth ministry by the Diocese of Austin? This certification pairs the Youth Ministry Essentials courses with theological and practical courses to ensure a comprehensive training in the practice of youth ministry. The certification is offered through our partnership with Franciscan at Home from the Office of Catechesis. Certification is broken down into three parts, and may be taken in any order.

Missionary Discipleship for Ministrypart 1
These courses offer a general introduction to the foundational and theological principles found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This program is the first step in basic adult formation for all ministry groups seeking catechetical certification. Classes are offered through the Youth Ministry Track using the online training module through Franciscan at Home. Membership to Franciscan at Home is open to all parish members through a free institutional subscription.

Advanced Ministry for Youthpart 2These courses focus on methodology and general catechetical practices needed to serve and minister to the adolescent community and empower adults who are beginning and continuing their ministry to adolescents. Advanced Ministry for Youth is the second course of study found under the Youth Ministry Track.

Youth Ministry Essentialspart 3The Youth Ministry Essentials courses focus on the vision of youth ministry, including programming, prayer and worship, and social mission.
Upon completion of the certification requirements, you will receive a certificate of completion from Franciscan at Home.
